Hatch-22: Designing During A Pandemic (Episode Two) – Understanding the Brand, Ergonomics, and UX/UI Of the Rubbish Beam

Have you ever wondered how your favorite technology devices were designed and brought to market? Even more, how are they developed during a global pandemic? In our first-ever “design-umentary,” you’ll get an inside look at our design process as we work from home.

Join us, Hatch Duo, and our friends at Rubbish, as we bring the world’s first smart litter picker-upper to life during a pandemic. In our first episode, we introduce you to Rubbish, a San Francisco-based startup aiming to gamify litter pickup.

In episode one, you saw Hatch Duo and Rubbish’s project kickoff meeting, and go through their product requirements document. Before Hatch Duo gets started on sketching and ideation, they need to get a better understanding of Rubbish’s brand and the current beam’s pain points. Along with episode one, we wrote about why we invested in Rubbish and why we think their mission is an easy one to stand behind.

Throughout episode two, you’ll get an inside look at how we broke down the Rubbish brand through visual branding exercises, how we broke down egonomics and UX/UI of the Rubbish beam. Additionally, you’ll see how we conducted design and engineering audits of the Rubbish beam, and the main pain points we will have to address as we move forward in the design process.
