At Hatch Duo, design isn’t just about aesthetics—it’s about refining solutions that enhance performance, usability, and reliability. In collaboration with Apex Cool Labs, we worked on the Next Generation Narwhals to bring a thoughtful approach to industrial design, ensuring the product balances functionality with a refined, rugged aesthetic. Designed for athletes, firefighters, and professionals in high-intensity environments, the Narwhals deliver advanced palm cooling technology in a form that is both intuitive and durable.
Designing for Real-World Use
The Next-Gen Narwhals weren’t just engineered for performance—they were refined with real-world application in mind. Our focus was on three critical aspects: ergonomics, durability, and seamless usability.
Ergonomic Form Factor: We tested multiple prototypes to refine the grip and weight distribution, ensuring that the Narwhals feel comfortable in various hand sizes and remain easy to use even in high-stress situations.
Rugged Durability: Inspired by the intense conditions of sports fields, weight rooms, and emergency response scenarios, we contributed to the development of a robust exterior. The black rubberized plastic finish enhances grip and durability while maintaining a premium feel.
Intuitive Assembly: Our user-centric approach ensured that the Narwhals assembled effortlessly — consisting of just three primary parts designed for ease of use in fast-paced environments.
Blending Form and Function
Beyond usability, we worked to ensure the design reflects professionalism and quality. The bottom-heavy structure provides stability, while the refined contours enhance confidence and reliability. Every design decision was made with real-world use in mind, supporting Apex Cool Labs’ advanced cooling technology in a form that seamlessly integrates into daily routines.
